We are honoured and pleased to present you a publication with summary information on the Staszow county, a region taking experience out of its rich tradition to think in terms of future.
The Staszow county is placed in the south-eastern part of the Swietokrzyski voivodship. Extended over an area of 927 sq. Km., with a population of 79 000, it is composed of 8 municipal units: 3 towns and communes and 5 communes. On the administrative chart of Poland the town Staszow, beginning with the 1st January 1999, has become for the third time in its history, the capital of county.
For long centuries it was but a farmland with a small industry based mainly on artisan workshops and manufactures.
However, the Staszow land, left in the past in the hands of the most powerful magnate families, is rich in many historic monuments of utmost value. Following the path of past ages, you are invited to visit not only Staszow itself but also Szydlow, Kurozwek, Rytwian, Wiazawnica and Sichow but also other localities, where you could find: monumental churches, palaces and manor houses and even fortress castles, ordinary village huts and crossroad chapels.
A great history did not leave aside Staszow and its surroundings. In 1974 Tadeusz Kosciuszko, fortressed in a camp near Polaniec, issued the "Polaniec Universal Call" and the neighboring territory turned to a battle zone with Russian troops.
In addition to cultural wealth, the Staszow land has got exceptional tourist and landscape sites, often unknown and underestimated. Worth of special attention are wide forest complexes, unique specimens of fauna and flora, beautiful ancient mansion parks or pictorial meadows along the river Czarna which flows through the middle of the county to form numerous and charmy arcs.
During the last three decades the growth of Staszow region was based on the extraction of sulphur and its treatment in Grzybow; also in 1971 a decision was taken to build a power plant in Polaniec which quickly turned to a leading investment project in the region. The 90's, in its turn, were marked by sinking prices of sulphur and problems with selling it. Therefore, both the extraction and treatment of it were widely reduced. Forcibly, structural modifications are necessary towards setting up small and medium-size enterprises. The emergence, in 1997, of Special Economic Zone EURO - PARK "WISLOSAN", including as its part, the Staszow subzone, at least until the end of 1999, results in unrestricted opportunities for investment.
All of you who have promising ideas, who look for profitably investing your capital are welcomed by both administrative and municipal authorities as well as by entrepreneurs.
A huge potential of our region are people. Indeed, their commitment to work, educational level and hospitality allow to benefit fully from our economy, tourist and cultural opportunities.
Let us invite you to the Staszow county to make your holidays there, initiate wider contacts and start with economic undertakings.

In the Staszow county, as it is throughout the country, the economic activity is carried out by subjects of different organizational and juridical form: State enterprises, partnerships of commercial and civil law, and physical persons engaged in economic activities including artisan workshops.
As a result of restructuring processes, under way since 1993, there prevail now smaller work establishments. Within 1995 - 1998 they increased in number to reach, all over the county, 3800 economic subjects.
The State run enterprises are under gradual process of their property transformation.
The county has a good potential of energy, mainly from a Power Plant of Polaniec SpA.
Running through the county is a steel and sulphur line promising a good return from a trade with countries of the former Soviet Union, and especially with the Ukraine and Byelorussia.
The county has a good telecommunication network for both domestic and international service. Extending the telephone systems is now a leading investment project. The Telekomunikacja Polska SpA, a Telecommunication Group in Staszow is pursuing investments works in 7 out of 8 communes in the county.
A number of institutions to service the business transactions are emerging. A leading one is the Staszow Economic Chamber now in function since 1997 and uniting 106 economic subjects.
In Staszow itself 3 banks are operating as well as various insurance agencies and a custom post to serve 15 enterprises and companies engaged in export and import activity.
The biggest enterprises of the Staszow county are: Power Plant of T. Kosciuszko SpA in Polaniec, Mine and Chemical Works "Siarkopol" in Grzybow, Clothing Industry Works "Vistula" SpA, Building and Mounting Work Co-operative "Budomont" and State Road Transports.
Two joint ventures with a share of foreign capital are operating in the county: Timber Processing Works "Ballauri - Poland" Ltd in Rytwiany and Dehydration Technologies Poland in Kurozweki to produce high quality dried vegetables and fruits. The goods are mostly exported.
Around a big industry artisan workshops are operating. They are found between big and middle size enterprises and consumers to provide repair and other services. The craftsmen are mainly committed to production. Bakers, confectioners and butchers contribute their share of food products. Numerous bricklayers, carpenters, plumbers and electricians as well as painters are busy with building and finishing houses.
The county has variable conditions for the farming. Out of the total farmland 80.4 percent are arable soil, 17.2 percent are green land and 2.4 percent are orchards. The average size of farm is 4.45 ha.
Due to a difficult situation in the market of farm products more and more farmers look for their additional income in the production of vegetables and fruits. In some communes the area of orchards is increasing and especially in the commune of Szydlow, where it has reached 433 ha, and it makes in total 5.9 percent of the farmland.
To stimulate a safe ecological development of the county is one of fundamental objectives of municipal authorities. During the last few years, in the 8 communes of the county 8 waste water treatment stations were put in operation.
The volume of there emitted pollution was reduced. It is due partly to a restricted production, including the extraction and treatment of sulphur but also an effect of implementing concrete pro-ecological investments e.g. in the power plant Polaniec.
Presented here is only a part of firms operating in the Staszow county and that is to provide at least a partial economic picture of the region.
The picture is intended to meet interests of both present and future clients and economic partners and, first of all, to give a comprehensive and variable image of there existing enterprises and firms. We are open for wide co-operation and economic initiatives.
